Lifesavers Gummies Sweet Strings N Sour Rings & A Brief Thank You

As I approach one month writing this blog, I thought I’d pull back the curtain for just one second, break the fourth wall.  My daily routine when I get home from work is pretty simple – drop the bag, grab a snack, hit the gym, shower, eat dinner, and get to bloggin’.  I started this blog because I truly enjoy junk food, but also because it was fun to talk to other people about it and to share my thoughts.  I thought, well, maybe in the future this could turn into something.

But the outpouring of support has been tremendous!  Friends and family buying things for me to try, people sending in photos via Twitter of things they’d like me to discuss, etc.  And its starting to get a little surreal for me – after all, I’m just a guy who likes to come home, and watch Baseball Tonight before going to bed. No editors here.

And then today, something very cool happened.  7-11 retweeted my review of the 7-Select S’mores Ice Cream Sandwiches to its more than 10,000+ followers.  Amazing.

This little blog engine is rolling folks!  Thanks to all of you who helped with this tiny start.

Today’s snackeroo: Lifesavers Gummies Sweet Strings N Sour Rings!

The Money Shot

I’m not a chocolate guy, per se, even though I enjoy it.  I’m not an exclusively Twizzlers guy, a hard candy guy, a candy powder guy – nope.  When it comes to candy, my true vice is gummy stuff.  Gummy gummy gummy.  Sour gummies, sweet gummies, gummies loaded with bits of candy, gummies dusted in powder – all of it.  I just like to chew and chew and feel that sugar coursing through my veins.

So these Lifesaver Gummies definitely appealed to me.  First of all, I love crossover candy (like Starburst jelly beans).  Second, I like that they’re giving me two separate flavors – both sour and sweet, depending on my mood.  Lifesavers are pro-choice 😉

Four distinct flavors

Thankfully, Lifesavers listed the flavors I would find inside.  I really hate being blind about what’s to come, like if a candy pimps its flavors to be “mixed fruit.”  What fruit??  Don’t want to tell me? Well, why am I buying you then? This isn’t a mystery movie, I don’t need a surprise ending.  “WHODUNIT!?  Oh, it’s melon in the library with strawberry.  That’s disappointing.”

Yummy Gummy!

Opening the bag, I was immediately curious which pieces were the sweet raspberry, the sweet cherry, the sour fruit punch, and the sour green apple.  Plenty of candy in this little pack, too.

Two shaped like Lifesavers, two shaped like...uh...

Sweet Strings and Sour Rings, huh?  Well, I guess it’s pretty self-explanatory.  If it’s Lifesaver Gummies, they couldn’t just make everything a ring?  I mean I don’t work for an ad firm, but is “Sweet Rings and Sour Rings” not exciting enough?

Love the familiar tiny crystalline sugar all over each piece.  It makes you feel like you’re really getting good sweet bang for your buck.

Sugar Sticks

The darker red piece on the left is the cherry one.  Sweet and immediately tasted a strong cherry flavor, with a decent bite.  On the right was the sweet raspberry – eh, it was ok.  I always feel like raspberry is one of those flavors I have to be reminded what it tastes like.  It’s a mental block.  The same thing happens when something is “kiwi flavored.”  It’s like, seriously?  Stop trying to trick me.

Sour Donuts

On the left here is the fruit punch sour ring, because, as we all know, fruit punch is blue.  Cough. Regardless, sour and tasty.  A great blend of sweet and that sour bite that makes the insides of your cheeks water.  Same with the right side green apple ring – immediate flavor profile recognized and sour sting registered.

All in all, a great product.  Still unsure why the need for different shapes, and I think the raspberry is a little weak, but for anyone who likes gummies like me, a good buy.
