WestSoy Chocolate Peppermint Stick Soy Beverage & The Story of Tebow and Rodgers

Junk Food Nation, the biggest stories in today’s NFL are clear: the potential undefeated season for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, and the phenomenon that IS Tim Tebow.

What Aaron Rodgers is doing this season is special, plain and simple.  I’m not gonna get all stat-geeky on you, but he is basically having potentially the greatest season of any NFL quarterback, ever.  Statistically better than Dan Marino.  Winning with a better QB rating than Joe Montana.  Spreading the ball out to 8-9 different receivers in every game.  If he wins another Super Bowl, there will be a serious conversation of who the better Packer is: Rodgers or Brett Favre.  If he goes undefeated, he might surpass Tom Brady’s fame, and he will finally shut up the 1972 Dolphins and their stupid champagne celebration. And if he does both, he will leave, Favre, Brady, Peyton Manning, Marino, Elway all in the dust, which is pretty sick – and we are all witnesses. I just beg of Rodgers – when he does break all these records, please still stay humble and not a big douche like Favre.

We are also all witnesses to Tebowmania, In Tebow We Trust, Tebow Time, whatever you want to call it. He is now 6-1, having taken over a 1-4 sucky Broncos team. This is a guy who week after week is STILL being slaughtered by critics like the idiots Cris Carter and Keyshawn Johnson and he STILL keeps winning. Yes, the Broncos’ D is good. Yes, the teams he is playing haven’t been very good. But this is the National Football League, and I don’t care WHAT team you are – if you make mistakes, the other side is going to make you pay.  And if there’s one thing Tim Tebow doesn’t do, even if he can’t throw like a prototypical QB, is make mistakes.  I mean, this guy is 6’3″ 240 lbs. – when he runs with the ball, it is HARD to tackle him.  Darrell Revis DUCKED out of the way of tackling him during the DEN-NYJ game.  I have no answers, but THIS is why I wanted him in Buffalo.  He’ll do whatever it takes to win, critics be damned, and will not pout.  It’s as if he actually understands how lucky he is to be in the NFL (ahem, Desean Jackson, you punk).

I’ll be watching this Sunday as I expect Tebow to get another win over the hapless Bears and Green Bay to absolutely demolish Oakland, both home games.  Today’s junk food: Westsoy Chocolate Peppermint Stick Soy Beverage!

The Money Shot

I know, I know what you’re thinking: Junk Food Guy, soy milk?  How is SOY MILK in any way shape or form, “junk food?”  Well, when you take the soy milk, add chocolate, add mint, and add sugar – then this healthy drink becomes a delightful drink. Yep, I said it.  DELIGHTFUL.

And let’s be clear, WestSoy – this Chocolate Peppermint Stick Soy “Beverage” is soy milk.  Stop being tricky. People aren’t buying it more because you took the word “milk” off of it.

Mmmmm frothy

WestSoy Chocolate Peppermint Stick Soy Beverage was discovered in my Giant supermarket. Per their website, WestSoy “provides you with the ultimate health benefits in great tasting beverages because we bring 35 years of soymilk expertise to our wide variety of lactose free, cholesterol, calcium fortified products.”

I think the addition of flavoring to soy milk is genius.  Soy milk is already very creamy and sort of tastes like a milkshake already.  Flavoring it with pumpkin spice or, in this case, chocolate and mint just makes sense, and it’s got more protein than regular milk. Win win.

Warm or chilled? Craziness

Serve warm or chilled, huh?  That’s…interesting, although I guess it makes sense.  Warmed, it’s like a decadent cocoa, and cold it’s like chocolate milk.  You’d never see this on Gatorade.  Piping hot Pepsi?  <gag>

But how am I supposed to heat drink warm then?

Westsoy Chocolate Peppermint Stick Soy Beverage addition suggestions: cherries, whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate shavings?  Did I buy soy milk or did I buy ice cream?

Also, I like that the box says don’t heat in carton.  This means someone tried it before.  Idiot.

Bo knows soy milk

Westsoy soy milk can be stored without refrigeration for up to a year!  That means if I like this, I could save a box until NEXT holiday season 🙂  Gross…but true.

Drink it quick!

I know that soy milk has the same shelf life as milk, maybe a little longer, but putting that time limit of 7-10 days on it makes me nervous.  Drink it, DRINK IT!

So official

Tetrapak: providing drink and food packaging solutions for all.  This company is one of Sweden’s largest corporations.  Go figure.

Peeled back the foil seal and we are ready to go!

Pours nice - thick and luscious

Westsoy Chocolate Peppermint Stick Soy Beverage poured easily, and was thick and creamy looking. You could smell the chocolate faintly. Looked tasty.  Time to sip!

Decadent

Westsoy Chocolate Peppermint Stick Soy Beverage was really really tasty.  Sort of like chocolate milk, although a little heavier in texture (I’m used to drinking skim milk, so maybe this was more the thickness of a whole milk.) The taste was really chocolatey, and had a nice refreshing mint flavor to it as well.  Not overpowering with mint, but just enough so it actually tasted like you mixed a peppermint stick into a glass of cocoa and then chilled it. All around, just a solid drink, and I highly recommend it. Nice work, WestSoy.

  1. I used to like your blog until I read “hapless Bears.” Those might be fighting words. Ha! Tebow dies at the hands of the Bears this week!

You ought to watch Lewis Black’s bit on soy milk. Link here.

  3. Old enough that I was here before the Colts. Also, am originally from Chicago suburbs and childhood friends (in Indianapolis) were Bears fans, so I gravitated toward them because of that and also that was during the Super Bowl Shuffle era and they were much more enjoyable than the new (and stinky) Colts.
