Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg, Cadbury Caramel Egg, & HAPPY EASTER!

Junk Food Nation, Happy Easter!  No wacky schtick today; a friend just had a baby, everyone’s at service or Easter Brunch, or digesting their Passover Seder meals, and I have a boatload of candy to review.  Today is part 1! Let’s just get to it.

I grew up eating Cadbury Creme Eggs.  I remember them being a forbidden fruit – way too much sugar for one little chocolate egg.  And I of course remember this commercial:

I always thought it was funny to have a rabbit buk-buk-buk-ing like a chicken.  Heh heh.  Anyways, since graduating from high school, I haven’t had one since.  I didn’t realize until THIS YEAR (I know, way to stay on top of things, Junk Food Guy) that there were now NEW Cadbury eggs: the Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg and Cadbury Caramel Egg.  Let’s eat, shall we?

Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg: The Money Shot

Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg: Star stamped? I never noticed this before.

Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg: Inside, ooey gooey chocolate cocoa creme

Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg: The creme was sticky and firm, and there was plenty of it.

The Cadbury Chocolate Creme Egg is REALLY chocolatey.  The outer shell is a good quality, easy to break milk chocolate.  Very sweet, and good richness.  The inside creme is another story.  The consistency of the creme was REALLY thick and REALLY sticky.  This was like a softer fudge that felt like it could’ve sealed my tub.  Caulk-like.  Which is not meant to denigrate the flavor – but this stuff was stick to your ribs.  But the flavor was a UBER rich cocoa, with a slant toward dark chocolate flavor.  Combining this plus the sweet milk chocolate exterior, this creme egg was a chocolate explosion in my mouth.  Sugar high: immediate.

Cadbury Caramel Egg: The Money Shot

Cadbury Caramel Egg: Awh, they added little flowers to the foil. That's festive.

Cadbury Caramel Egg: Viscous caramel interior

Cadbury Caramel Egg: Drip drip....catch it with your tongue!

The Cadbury Caramel Egg was also an immediate sugar boost – holy cow.  Same nice milk chocolate shell.  Same sweetness.  The caramel was even MORE viscous than the chocolate creme, and even MORE sticky – once this stuff came out of the chocolate shell, it got EVERYWHERE – my fingers, napkins, my shirt, my floor (I’m a messy eater).  Good lord.  Sticky sticky sticky.  The caramel flavor was nice though – contrary to the chocolate creme, this caramel was a nice muted sweetness, with a deep burnt sugar flavor.  Awesome stuff.  Combined with the chocolate exterior, this was my favorite of the two Cadbury eggs.

Happy Easter everyone!  Part 2 tomorrow.
