New Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Tacos & Need Feedback on the Future of Junkfoodguy.com

Junk Food Nation, welcome back to work after a sunny (well, at least at Miami and in DC) Memorial Day weekend.  As we close in on ONE YEAR of doing this blog (I can hardly believe it myself), I’m turning to you for some help.  I need to know what I’m doing right, what I’m doing wrong.  What you like, what you don’t, what you want to see more of, what you want to see less of.  I am generally purchasing all of my junk food, so it’s not a cheap endeavor, though infinitely more affordable than doing heroin, so that’s good. Anyways, help me out and take the following survey:

It’s just one of those SurveyMonkey things, and there’s only three questions.  Or leave feedback in the comments below.  I need your help, Junk Food Nation!

Today’s junk food: New Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Tacos!

New Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Tacos: The Money Shot

New Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Tacos were found in my local Giant Food Mart, and are just one of three flavors of Choco Taco out there, besides Original (vanilla with chocolate) and Chocolate (chocolate with chocolate).  I love peanut butter and chocolate (who doesn’t?) so I had to try these.

Yep, this map of the Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Taco pretty much says it all.

Thank God no actual Tacos were hurt in the making of this Choco Taco

Definitely not a diet food.

New Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Tacos are definitely not good for you, but who cares? It’s starting to get really warm out, and what better way to cool your day than with a little Choco Taco action?

WHOA. Helado de tacos

It makes me wonder how the hell someone came up with this?  According to Wiki: “The product was invented in Philadelphia in the 1980s by Alan Drazen, Senior Vice President of the Jack and Jill Ice Cream Company, but was first rolled out in 1984 when it became popular in mobile vending trucks and convenience stores.”

Chocolatey peanut topping

Still, did someone stand up in a board meeting and say, “You know what America loves? TACOS AND ICE CREAM. Let’s marry the two, shall we gentlemen?” And everyone started back slapping and lighting their cigarettes with burning 100 dollar bills.

Clean (sort of) bite

I’ll just say this: These new Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Tacos taste just as you’d expect them too, and that is synonymous with AMAZING.

The ice cream is light and peanut butter-y, accentuated by the peanut butter swirl. Very creamy.  The layer of chocolate inside the shell adds immediate sweet chocolate flavor, also supplemented by the casing of chocolate on top.  The basic chocolate plus peanut butter ice cream flavor combo is simple and satisfying.

Plenty of hardened chocolate to supplement the ice cream

Add into it all the shape of the Choco Taco and the waffle cone shell, and you have a really nice flavor experience.  Easy to eat, as the shell is thin enough to fit into your mouth.  The shell COULD’VE been a LITTLE crispier, but I must admit the littel bit of give it had prevented the whole thing from shattering all over the place.  I was able to take clean sweet cold bites and finish the whole thing without a spill or incident (unlike REAL hard shell tacos.)

Firm yet flexible shell

New Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Tacos were also reviewed by my fellow blogger, the Fat Guy Food Blog. He noted that you couldn’t see the PB swirls like the package illustrated.  I totally agree.  Still, I liked this product.

Good flavor, good texture, good crunch, little mess.  You also got a nice little crunch from the peanuts embedded in the chocolate topping.  What else could I ask for?  Really good product, Klondike.

I just had one of these the other day and was blown away. My shell was actually the crunchiest I’ve ever experienced in a choco taco which is always a plus. If I hadn’t known Dubba was going to review this I definitely would’ve in a heartbeat for onsecondscoop. Good to know I’m not the only one who enjoyed it a lot seeing as Fatguyfoodblog was only so so on it.

There’s no part of the survey that says “same amount of banter and reviews.” I think it’s a good balance: because more of either one means less of the other, I think you’re fine where you are. I also appreciate that you take the time to respond to individual comments. Looking for your comments or other new comments bring me back to the site to the tune not of 10+ visits per week, but 5+ visits per day. Also because I’m bored at work.

    I can’t believe it’s already been a year. That’s crazytalk.

Finally, surveymonkey. My mother, whom I love, has trouble sometimes with proper names, and particularly proper names that comprise real words that have been smooshed together. So for the first three years she’s been faced with surveys from surveymonkey, she’s been referring to them as monkey surveys.

I have never had the peanut butter version, but I wasn’t a big fan of the vanilla & chocolate ones. The shells were very soft & the ice cream was just alright. By the way your blog is great the way it is!

  4. Nick Rovo says:

@junkfoodguy: it serves its purpose and more. Hopefully they extend the line and transform their caramel pretzel and rocky road bars in tacos. A man can dream can’t he? Oh and regarding the blog, I like it as is. You strike a nice balance between your non related and related banter. It’s nice to see a review blog that’s doing something right for once.
