A Late Sunday “In Stores Now”

Junk Food Nation, today was a blur – I had so many errands to run that it is now 6:00pm and I’m just sitting down to blog. Sorry bout that. Since it’s so late in the day, let me just discuss some things I saw in stores but did not buy:

Oof – that IS bold

Walmart is now selling Taco Bell-brand sauces that comes in *squirm* SQUEEZE bottles. Yeah I’m sure those chipotle and jalapeño sauces taste nice and fresh. When I saw these, I couldn’t help but remember the Taco Ranch Dressing that was sold back in the day. Yeeeg.

Speaking of back in the day…

Kinda cool also seeing Walmart sell Cracker Jack in the old school box.  Of course, I think its amusing that the “faded white cardboard box” look is now achieved via ink and Photoshop.  Damn, I was hoping these were just sitting around for decades…

For when you want a LOT of ice cream

Waffle cones are good for ice cream on the go. And a paper or regular bowl is fine when you want to just sit down and eat ice cream. But what about when you want to sit down, eat ice cream, AND then eat the bowl?  Well, then Waffle Bowls are for you! What’s that? Why can’t I do the same thing with an ice cream cone, sitting still? Then you wouldn’t have the pleasure of eating a soggy waffle bowl at the end, that’s why! DUH.

The Riddle is: “How is this fun?”

The colors don’t match the flavors in these Skittles Riddles.  Wow.  Riddle me this – who here DOESN’T think that they just screwed up the candy making process and needed a slick way to market the mistakes?

Chocolatey!

Hey, a snack that shares my love for just putting a -Y on the end of words to immediately convert them to adjectives!  How progressive-y of them!

I knew this wouldn’t live up to the hype

I’ve done puddings on this blog before, and they never really blow me away. Even these cool flavors – lemon meringue pie and apple pie a la mode – I knew would just taste like lemon and apple.  Big whoop.

The bigger news is why is the shelf these puddings were displayed on SO DIRTY!?  Gross.

MY HOME TOWN SAUCE!

Anchor Bar Sauce??? NO WAY!  Since when did they start selling this???

They’re grrrrrrrrr-zucharitas!!!!

Choco Zucaritas, or Frosted Chocolate, seems like the worst cereal for kids, ever. Bleached flour flakes, flavored with chocolate, and frosted with sugar???  SIGN ME UP!  Also, since when did Tony the Tiger have his name on the bandana around his neck?

Good in theory…

At Giant Grocery I found these Brown-ees.  (1) while I understand that these are ice cream filled brownies, I’m not sure how changing the word from Brownies to Brown-ees reflects that, and (2) does anyone else think this brownie looks like dark plywood?  Yeah…I passed on these.

Anyways, that’s all for today.  A regular post comes tomorrow!

Ya those brownies do look like they are made od plywood. I think dubba on second scoop reviewed those brownies. I have seen the anchor bar on tv, it looks really good. What’s your take on that place. Isn’t there another famous wing place close to it too. I can’t remember the name. Thought about taking a road trip to buff, but it’s still like 7 or 8 hours from ct. From buff to Ben & Jerry’s in vt is another 7 hours. That would be a nice trip, but to much driving.

@Will: You may be thinking of Duff’s….Duff’s and Anchor Bar are usually the two places people think of. I like them both – I mean, while there are people who are strongly loyal, when it really comes down to it, both places are pretty good. A true Buffalo wing does not have breading, and both Duffs and Anchor Bar subscribe to the “lightly dip in some flour, deep fry skin to hell” philosophy.

Soggy waffles saturated in melted ice cream…what’s not to love about that? (I’m kidding). I really like that brownie ice cream idea but the picture does it no justice. Actually Dubba’s review confirms that they’re a bust http://www.onsecondscoop.com/2010/12/q-bees-brown-ees-how-could-i-resist.html What a shame, what a shame.

@Nick: Ah, nice – thanks for the link. So glad I didn’t buy them…they did look cool conceptually but yeah the photo was not great. Looks like the product wasn’t great either. I mean, brownies and ice cream SHOULD be good, right?

I like the what the fudge brownies by klondike. You should give them a try or better yet go get some quality vanilla ice cream, make up some brownies and make yourself a brownie ala mode=]

  4. Brownies BAD. Chocolate Frosted Flakes might be worth a try… 🙂

  5. Geoff says:

If they didn’t add the “ey” to chocolate to make them “chocolatey” then they would be required to have real chocolate in there somewhere. By adding the “ey” then can use artificial flavoring to achieve the “sense of some chocolate” without the actual substance in the cookies.
