Mild and Milkis & I Need Your Feedback, Junk Food Nation! Survey Time!

Junk Food Nation, I’m always looking to innovate this site, so today I want and need your help.  Today’s topic: the front page of this website.  What do you use? What don’t you use? What is just garbage you ignore, and what draws your eye in immediately? But most importantly – what do you use, if ever, to search past blog posts.  I have a whole bunch of ways to find stuff on my front page…but do you all ever use it? I wanna know.

If there was ever a time to comment down below, this is it.  If there was ever a time I needed you to click here to take this survey, this is it.  So please help.  I’ve created a survey addressing this exact topic, and you can go answer the ONE QUESTION SURVEY by clicking:

Do it! DOOOO ITTTTTT!  (I’m hoping the text-peer pressure will have some impact.) And thanks in advance.

Today I just wanted to address two random drinks I found at my local Asian grocery.

Let’s Be Mild, indeed

Canned coffee drinks have been big for a while, but honestly, this is the first time I’ve seen it in an Asian Grocery.  Let’s Be Mild is a coffee drink from South Korea by the Lotte company. It’s a very sweet and milky coffee drink, I’m told, much like a bottled Frappuccino.

First, I love the title of this drink. Let’s Be Mild…I guess referencing a relaxing scene where you’re kicking back and enjoying a calm cup of joe?  Except I tend to think of coffee as making me anything BUT mild.  As the Junk Food Gal would tell it, my coffee should be named “Let’s Be Agitated and Impatient and Full of Nervous Energy and Talk Louder Than Normal.” Right.

Plus, the tag line: “Ultimately, tasting is comparing.” That’s deep.  I…I don’t even know how to make fun of that.  Your turn.

Milkis: Fantastic Feel!

Milkis is also made by the Lotte Company, and is a carbonated mill beverage.  Wait what? My stomach dropped just writing this.  Now, to be fair, this is a HUGELY popular drink is Korea, so this must taste pretty damn good.  I’m probably just conceptualizing it wrong in my head.  But when I hear carbonated milk, I get the shivers. Wiki says “It combines many of the common elements of traditional carbonated beverages such as corn syrupsugar, and carbonated water with milk to create a creamy taste…” *Shivers*

Still, as I said before, Milkis is a popular soda drink in South Korea and comes in a variety of fruit flavors.  This one is the basic milk flavor, I guess, because I couldn’t find a fruit labeling anywhere. Love the random Tim Burton-like figures drawn on the can, and the tagline, “New feeling of soda beverage” is funny as well.  Maybe next time I’m out I’ll have the courage to buy these.

I took the survey! I’m down to try the carbonated milk, although I would probably have to open the can and close my eyes as I took a sip, trying not to think about what would be hitting my tongue. You should make reaction videos for the extreme and unusual junk food you find!

  4. Ashley says:

The Milkis really isn’t bad. It’s interesting, like a flavor you’ve never had before, but it wasn’t like carbonated milk. Kind of hard to describe, but definitely not disgusting in any way. As for the coffee–in the winter, they’re kept in what looks like a regular cooler but is actually a heater (I can’t explain it properly; it looks like a cross between a cooler and a toaster oven) so you can get hot coffee without actually going to a coffee place. Ingenious.

@Ashley: hmmmm….. see, now I DEFINITELY have to try the Milkis. And wait – they keep the cans of coffee in a HEATER? So you can actually pop the top…and have HOT COFFEE??? #mindblown

  5. Hannah says:

Can I just say that Milkis sounds like the most horrendous thing ever! I HATE milk, just looking at it makes me feel sick. The thought of carbonate milk really is just wrong. I think I might be traumatised! lol
