In Stores Now: Early Halloween Edition & my Week 2 NFL Picks

Junk Food Nation, week 1 of he NFL did NOT turn out how I thought it would.  Redskins beating the Saints?  Detroit needing a final drive to beat the Rams? The Jets dominating my Bills?  What bizarro world am I living in???  I ended up 8-8 on the week.  Boo.

No fear.  It is ONLY WEEK 1.  My thought: Not enough of a sample size.  So let’s get to my Week 2 picks!

Bears @ Packers: I picked the BEARS in this game because I thought they might go in and shock the world, that Green Bay was vulnerable after being beaten by the Niners in a short week, and that this was a chance for the Bears to show they were the most balanced team in the NFC.  23 pts and a Matt Forte high ankle sprain later, I am crushed.  0-1.

Chiefs @ Bills: Never bet against Fitzmagic. BILLS.

Browns @ Bengals: The BENGALS will win this, because the Browns won’t. I don’t know how else to explain this game.  YOU know what I’m saying here. Brandon Weeden.  That is all.

Vikings @ Colts: Tough game to call.  AP was back in action last week, so that doesn’t bode will for the Colts, but I think I may give the COLTS the win here because I think Andrew Luck’s learning curve is super fast.

Saints @ Panthers: The SAINTS will not lose two in a row, and I know they are on the road.  I just think Brees and Co. are so pissed at being stunned Week 1 they won’t stop here until the Panthers beg for mercy.

Texans @ Jaguars: Schaub, Foster, and Johnson looked on point Week 1.  The Jags aren’t going to dull that shine. TEXANS.

Raiders @ Dolphins: This is the game Darren McFadden gets over 150 total yards en route to a Dolphins beatdown.  RAIDERS.

Cardinals @ Patriots: Lock of the week. PATRIOTS…because Bill Belichick isn’t about to get beat by Kevin Kolb.

Buccaneers @ Giants: The GIANTS will bounce back at home and win this game, but if they lose and go 0-2 they’ll probably still find a way to win the Super Bowl.

Ravens @ Eagles: RAVENS.  The Eagles looked awful last week, and I’m glad I used them already in my Survivor Pool…phew!

Redskins @ Rams: The REDSKINS win, but I could easily see this as a trap game.  I feel like in the past five years, the Rams have had the Skins’ number.  Coming off a big Saints win, the Skins better not sleep on Bradford and an old old Steven Jackson.

Cowboys @ Seahawks: Seahawks Stadium is ALWAYS a tough place for teams to play, so I’m giving the edge here to the SEAHAWKS. Romo will have a tough time passing, so expect DeMarco Murray to have a big day.

Jets @ Steelers: I still have NO IDEA how the Jets did what they did last week, but I expect the STEELERS to pass rush better than the Bills and force Sanchez to make mistakes.

Titans @ Chargers: I want the Titans to win here, but even with Kenny Britt back who KNOWS if Jake Locker will be ok after last week’s game.  I gotta tip towards the home team here – CHARGERS.

Lions @ Niners: TOUGH MATCHUP here.  The NINERS deftly handled the Packers, and I think they will give the Lions fits.  The Lions score last week wasn’t as close as people seem to think, however – they dominated the Rams but made some big mistakes.  The Niners will capitalize on those mistakes.

Broncos @ Falcons: If Peyton can go on the road in a dome and beat a tough Falcons team, then all bets are off.  Still, the FALCONS are awfully good at home, and the Ryan-Jones connection may surpass the Stafford-Megatron connection this week.

Let’s hope I do better than 8-8! In the meantime, let’s look at some Halloween related items I’ve seen in stores recently:

Limited Edition Halloween Crunch!

This new Cap’n Crunch cereal turns your milk green.  This is really a thing for kids and some adults, isn’t it – the whole “your milk turns a different color” thing.  I don’t know why, but I’ve never enjoyed that fact – maybe because I can see it for what it is, that some awful food dye is leaking into my otherwise pristine milk.  Boo, indeed.

Gourmet?

Jelly Belly is making gourmet candy corn, which makes my head explode as much as yours does. Also, I swear to god, each piece was individually packaged, which was even more bizarre.  And what does “From the Makers of Jelly Belly” mean?  Isn’t JELLY BELLY the makers of Jelly Belly?

Creme’s gone GREEN

Cadbury is getting in on the action, making these Cadbury Screme Eggs.  I love this display because it was necessary to asterisk the Creme’s Gone Green tagline and explain that it was the same great flavor.  Thank you, Cadbury.

Green “yolk”

The main difference is a different dye that makes the centers green, not yellow.  Is food coloring seasonal? Apparently so.

Screme?

Still, it is a brilliant concept – you can make your snack seasonal by merely adding an S.  It’s genius. If anyone tries these, let me know how they are.

NO

And finally, in the category of “snacks I still will not be eating,” are these Candy Corn DOTS.  Candy Corn Flavored Gumdrops??  Have we lost our minds here?  How far from candy corn are gumdrops anyways…like a few sugar molecules here or there?  Is there anyone out there who is thinking, “You know, I love candy corn….but if only it was SOFTER.” Whatever.

Happy Sunday, Junk Food Nation!

“the creme’s gone green” because these have been sitting in a hot warehouse since Easter! No, no, really…we meant to make it green. Seriously. Totally on purpose.

  2. Lindemann says:

The only one of those I would eat is the Jelly Belly corn, and I would feel guilty the whole time regarding the carbon footprint of the packaging.

  3. Elisa says:

The egg could bought back around St. Patrick’s Day for its green center!

  4. The only acceptable color for cereal milk to turn is chocolate brown. That is all.

We have Cadbury screme eggs here in the UK! We have had them for a few years now but your candy is by far more AMAZING! I would love to try Crunch or any American cereal. We have froot loops in limited edition over here at the moment but they only have three colours; purple, green and orange because we cant have artificial colourings! Its just not the same!

  6. Nikki says:

We have a few artificial colourings but most are banned because food regulators believed they caused mood swings in children and where bad for our health. It was caused by mothers complaining and now most, if not all food products especially those aimed at kids contain no artificial colours or preservatives. Here in the UK we are super health conches. For example the size of candy over here and serving sizes are reducing drastically whereas over in the USA you can buy king size candy bars! The UK is no fun with experimenting with crazy, fun foods haha.

@Nikki: I can dig it though. As much as I strangely am fine with eating chemicals and preservatives, I am really against consuming dyes – even though I do it all the time. Good for the UK for being progressive!

I bought the Cadbury Screme egg. I couldn’t help it. It was green and scary looking…perfect for Halloween….and possibly indigestion.

I’ll let you know what fear tastes like once I muster up the courage to unwrap it.

  8. Charice says:

    I absolutely will

  9. Albany Dana says:

It’s just a creme egg. But instead of yellow it’s green. No difference. Review going up today.
