Review: Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream & Awkward Armrest Maneuvers, Continued
Junk Food Nation, after yesterday’s post about awkward armrest situations, the Junk Food Gal told me one of her moves when someone is hogging the armrests:
“What you do is you wait for the person next to you to shift in their seat, move around go for soda, or whatever…and then the SECOND their arm lifts from that armrest my arm’s in there! Like a ninja! And then when they go to put their arm down, and they see mine there, and then they look up at me…I’m just staring ahead, watching the movie.”
LOL, and that’s why she is the Junk Food Gal.
Also, I recently received a very nice tweet that a reader based their midweek grocery list on what me and another reviewed on Tuesdays. Well, I have a good one for you today.
Today’s junk food: Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream!
I have to be honest, I’m not sure if this Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream is new. It very well may not be. But I’d heard of this flavor for a while now…I think the guys over at On Second Scoop mentioned it to me, or maybe Twitter friend Will did…in any case, I’ve been hearing about this flavor. And I needed it….NEEDED IT.
And then, RANDOMLY, at a Giant grocery in Germantown, Maryland….THERE IT WAS. ROWS OF IT. TURKEY HILL PUMPKIN PIE ICE CREAM. And the angels sing.
Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream is an addition to really a very scarce number of Pumpkin Pie related reviews on this blog. It’s one of my favorite flavors, I don’t know why I haven’t done more. Anywho.
People do pumpkin pie ice cream really differently. Sometimes it’s pumpkin ice cream, sometimes its swirled with “whipped cream” ice cream, like Perry’s (as reviewed by On Second Scoop). For me, the CRUST is crucial.
Not much of a description of the side of this Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream…
One sign this Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream is legit…PUMPKIN PUREE! Awesome. No “natural flavors”….actual puree. So key.
When I opened this tub, I could smell the cinnamon and pumpkin spice. Love it. I couldn’t help myself…even before taking pictures, I dug into this Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream. I had to.
Because this Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream was AWESOME!!!!! Holy moly, this may, and I don’t say this lightly, this may be my favorite, FAVORITE, ice cream flavor ever. EVER.
First of all, the pumpkin ice cream tasted extremely pumpkin-y, and was full of cinnamon spice. Not overpowering, but exactly the right balance to make me feel like it tasted like Pumpkin Pie. And it TASTED like it was pie ala mode, because I was EATING ICE CREAM – so the milky creaminess added so much more to the flavor.
But the REAL star of this Limited Edition Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream is the SWIRL. WOOOOO BABY, the SWIRL. The swirl was STRONG cinnamon graham cracker crust. It added the PERFECT amount of cinnamon spice burst to each bite, and basically tasted just like pie crust, in texture and in substance. The swirl was perfect. I appreciate that – Turkey Hill didn’t go for chunks of crust and cinnamon swirl, they baked that cinnamon INTO the crust and made the swirl OUT OF the crust. GENIUS.
Seriously folks, this ice cream was legit. LEGIT. This is a DEFINITE re-buy….if I can find it!

I’ve been looking for this ice cream for a couple months now, but the stores in my area refuse to carry it. Bush!
I’m glad you got a chance to find one though, now if I could only be so lucky!
@IE: yeah, if I make it back to that grocery store, I am buying every single tub left.
Yeah this one was October’s limited edition so it might be difficult to track down. I literally saw it for one day and it was gone the next time I went to get it. Now it’s been replaced by the coconut cream pie I sent you.
@Nick: see my response to IE 😉
Nice that there is actual puree, but the ‘natural flavors’ are in the ingredients of the pumpkin puree, see parentheses. 🙁
@Kaco: AAAAH good catch. Rats
my gawwwd!!! that looks freaking delicious!!!!
@David: LOL, it WAS!
Ya I loved that ice cream, and no doubt the swirl was the star of the show. If u like that swirl u should try the TH phillies graham slam. That swirl is amazing also! I picked up 2 more containers of the pumpkin pie and have them safely in my freezer waiting or a rainy day. I did tweet it to u when the ice cream informant reviewed it.
Will, I’m so very jealous of you on the graham slam front. I only get to have it when I’m visiting family in Pennsylvania seeing as New York has the most boring flavors from turkey hill for the yankees.
@Nick:
“Bronx Bombers Sundae contains Chocolate Premium Ice Cream with chocolate crunchies and fudgy cookies swirl, while Pinstripe Brownie Blast is Vanilla Premium Ice Cream with a delicious blend of brownies and brownie batter swirl.”
Yeah… concur, pretty uninspiring.
@Will: NICE! glad I got the credit somewhat right 😛
@nick, have u ever tried the blitzburg crunch flavor. I can’t get it here and it looks good. Of course it maybe hard to eat it since I HATE the steelers! We have those boring NY Yankees too. The eagles flavor looks boring too. The phillies batter up is pretty good but nothing like the pumpkin oe graham slam
Will, to be honest I don’t think I’ve even seen the steelers flavor when I’ve been in PA. I might have to keep an eye out next time I visit though because it does sound pretty good.
@Nick and @ Will: “Blitzburgh Crunch is sweet cream vanilla ice cream with chocolate cake crunchies and crunchy chocolate cookie swirl. ” Sounds pretty good…although I’m curious what cake crunchies are, and how Turkey Hill proves these are NOT Oreos.
At my undergrad, we had an Edy’s ice cream machine in our dining hall. Seeing that featured ice cream reminds of some of the flavors we had!
@Elisa: YOU HAD AN EDY’S ICE CREAM MACHINE???
@jfg, i have had lady liberty mint, and it has the chocolate crunches in it. They are very good. That’s another flavor that is a must try if u like mint. The cookie swirl is pretty amazing, it’s thick and tasty.
Will, I really need to find that lady liberty flavor. I think I spotted it once when I was in a random shop rite about 40 minutes from me
@Nick, Shop Rite is where I get all of my flavors at. They always have a good selection.
Hood makes the Red Sox Flavors: Comeback Caramel; Bosox Brownie; Green Monster Mint; Fenway Fudge; Grand Slam Vanilla; and Peanut Butter Nation.
Not the most inspiring of flavors, but they all come with milk chocolate sox mixed into each, which is cool.
As for the Mets, would their flavor be Bitter Big Apple, or Sour Grapes?
@Shorneys: Oh, nice. Is Hood ice cream good?
I don’t understand these products, why not just freeze some pumpkin and put cinnamon on it? Isn’t it going to taste much more pumpkin-y?
@Amy, It’s quite simple really. Everything is better in ice cream form.
How is freezing pumpkin the same as eating pumpkin ice cream. Yikes!
@Will: LOL
@Amy- wait, what?
BEST ICE CREAM EVER!!!
@Sandy: Concur
Just bought this today at Giant in Wheaton – delish! I also bought the Eggnog flavor – hope that is just as good!
This is the most delicious ice cream I’ve ever had- pumpkin pie ice cream. It should be carried year round. It’s difficult to find in stores also. When I did find this I bought every tub they had- 7! Yummmmy!
