Review: Limited Batch Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream & The Washington Wizards Are Awful

Junk Food Nation, on this, my birthday’s eve, I wanted to mention something that is happening locally.  There is an abomination happening in DC right now. No, not the fiscal cliff.  I’m talking about the Washington friggin’ Wizards.  They are 0-12.  They haven’t won ONE SINGLE GAME since the year began?  WTF.

Now I’ll admit.  The NBA is not my favorite.  I’ve written before about how the NBA Draft is rigged. During the NBA Lockout, I declared the sport dead.  I also wrote about why the game is inferior to other sports.  So I admit further that I don’t have a favorite basketball team.  You’d think growing up in New York I’d be a huge Knicks fan, but I never got on that bandwagon.  When it comes to basketball, I like college much more.  Especially when I’m gambling on it in Vegas.

Anyways, back to the woeful Wizards.  How can a professional team be this bad?  How can professionals selected from a HUGE POOL OF COLLEGE TALENT, and then placed on a team together, BE THIS BAD?  The Wizards are such a joke, that tickets for tonight’s game are being sold, on StubHub, for 99 cents.  99 CENTS PEOPLE.  Seriously.  SERIOUSLY.

Please Wizards. Get me a win for my birthday. Make an effort against Portland tonight. If you win, I’ll come down there and spray you all with champagne like it’s the Finals…but truthfully, if you DO somehow luck-box your way into a W, act like you’ve been there before.  Even though you haven’t. #EndHaterRant

Today’s junk food: Limited Batch Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream!

Limited Batch Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream: The Money Shot

I talked about looking for this Limited Batch Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream a while ago…actually, over a year ago.  Never did get a chance to try this when it was around last season.  Well, it’s back, and I am all in, Ben & jerry’s. ALL IN.  (I’ve been playing too much poker on my phone recently…sorry).

Pumpkin cheesecake, not pie

Now, this Limited Batch Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream is DIFFERENT than yesterday’s Turkey Hill pumpkin ice cream – Turkey Hill’s was just straight up Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream, while this is Pumpkin Cheesecake.  I was worried doing two pumpkin ice creams back to back, with one influencing my take on the other…but I think I can separate it.

Grab it while you can?

The reason I am doing two pumpkin-based ice creams back to back because with November ending, I wanted to clear out all the Fall flavors so I could focus December on holiday treats!  I realize this is an arbitrary distinction.  Deal with it.

Why is Tapioca Starch and Honey so BIG

Honestly, I don’t review a ton of ice creams on this blog…I usually leave the ice cream reviewing to other blogs I follow like any of the ones listed at the bottom of the page in my blog roll.

Nice pumpkin cheesecake look

When I opened this Limited Batch Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream, I could smell a slight pumpkin-y smell.  That’s good.  Unlike the Turley Hill yesterday, the look of this ice cream was much more subtle.  Since it’s pumpkin cheesecake, I actually thought the off color of this ice cream was spot on.

Bands of graham swirl

When I scooped some of this Limited Batch Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream, I could see the small ribbon of graham cracker swirl.  It’s light colored, unlike the dark Turkey Hill version.  But there was plenty of it (swirl) which was nice.

Nicely seasoned

I swallowed a spoonful of this Limited Batch Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Ice Cream, and it was damn good.  The ice cream had great pumpkin flavor, and was very creamy…very much like a pumpkin cheesecake.  I won’t go so far as to say I could taste the cream cheesiness of a cheesecake flavor, but there was a slight cream cheesy edge I could taste when I really thought about it.

The crust was muted but still added to the overall flavor…it was slightly salty and had good cinnamon and nutmeg flavor.  Very good representation of cheesecake crust.

Overall, a very good ice cream – tasted like frozen pumpkin pie cheesecake! Definitely worth the buy.  I think I still like the Turkey Hill better, only because the pumpkin and cinnamon flavors POPPED more, but this flavor was subtle and well crafted.

Of course, since the flavor has been out for a while, some of my colleagues have given their opinions too!

Crazy Food Dude: “Undoubtedly BUY IT, but you better do it soon before the limited batch runs out.  I know I will because as you can see in this picture, it took every fiber of strength I had to not finish off this pint in one sitting”

The Ice Cream Informant: “The powerful combination of pumpkin, graham cracker crust, and cheesecake result in one of the best flavors of Fall I’ve found.”

The Impulsive Buy: “You can just feel the pounds adding on that will later be filled with remorse as you weigh yourself. But wasn’t it worth it? Hell yes, sweat pants are cheap anyhow.”

Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for the link and glad to see you enjoyed it. I’ve purposely not had it since that review because I get enough calories reviewing products as it is already…I don’t need a reason to add even more and this would certainly be one of those reasons.

  2. Will says:

I love this flavor too. I like how they add the cheesecake element to it. It’s a different flavor to all the other pumpkin flavors out there. I wish pumpkin products was out year around.

  3. Elisa says:

There’s a story about the Wizards’ season on the front page of “The Washington Post” today. The photo features 3 guys wearing Giant brown bags over their heads.

  4. Grocery Gems says:

Damn this ice cream looks so gooood! I love the idea of the cinnamon and cheesecake flavours.

    Happy Birthday for tomorrow 🙂

Hey don’t forget about us! http://www.onsecondscoop.com/2010/11/ben-jerrys-limited-editon-pumpkin.html

Also on The Wizards, I think it would be cheaper for me to travel to D.C. to watch a game vs. me going to a Knicks game at MSG. That’s just very sad.
