Review: Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips & Pizza Hut Perfume

Junk Food Nation, just when I thought I’d seen it all (I have a bottle of bacon flavored sex lube in my condo, for example), I flip on the news and they are talking about a new perfume. No, not from Calvin Klein….but from Yum! Brands.  Pizza. Hut. Perfume.

From the press release:

Appropriately enough, it began as a joke: Pizza Hut Canada’s marketing firm, Grip Limited, posted a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post on the Pizza Hut Canada fan page, asking, “Do you love the smell of a box of Pizza Hut pizza being opened? We thought so. If that smell was a perfume, what would it be called?”

And then it wasn’t a joke. Because they made it.  They made Pizza Hut Perfume.

It “boasts top notes of freshly baked, hand-tossed dough.” Well, that’s nice…I can go walking around smelling like a Subway restaurant.

Of course, when I was a little kid I used to splash, read SPLASH, Brut and Drakkar Noir like it was my job.  Gross.  So I can’t complain too much since I am clearly not a cologne or perfume connoisseur. But ….but…who WANTS to smell like this!? You tell me in the comments below.  Who?

Weirdos.

Today’s junk food: Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips!

Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips: The Money Shot

Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips were found at Walmart.  I have to be honest, I passed by these so many times without buying them.  “I’ve eaten baked potato potato chips plenty of times!” I’d say in my head.  Then I’d eye then longingly, walking my cart around the display several times.  Finally, when they went on sale, I just gave in and bought them. I love potato chips. I am weak.

That’s how I like MINE

Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips, if they taste ANYTHING like the potato image on the front of this bag, will be a big hit in my household.  Remember my review of the Lay’s Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Stax? I do. I was pretty giddy afterwards.

BACON FAT!

Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips get a +1 in my book, because one of the last ingredients is actual bacon fat.  YES!  I have found that whenever a chicken chip actually has chicken fat, it really does taste better – it tastes MORE like the meaty component promised.  Now I am EXTRA psyched for these.

I AM a lover of those things!

Do I need to hide these Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips from my freeloading roommate? No. Because I have no roommate. #Adult

Those aren’t maximum ridges…

When I opened the bag of these Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips, it smelled like sour cream, cheddar, and bacon. It just DID.  Not a STRONG smell, but I didn’t get just a general savory or general cheese smell.  There was a genuine smoky something going on.

Ba BAM!  MAX!

OK, so, I ate a BIG MOUTHFUL of these Ruffles MAX Loaded Bacon & Cheddar Potato Skins Potato Chips, and, as you guessed, these were great.  They were everything I wanted them to be.  Let’s be clear – this wasn’t a new flavor to me, or you, or anyone, for that matter.  It was a pre-existing flavor, done very well.  Done right.

As a result, I’m really not sure what the MAX meant.  These weren’t max crunchy. These weren’t super duper powdered.  These didn’t have HUGE ridges, or were GIGIANTIC chips.  I guess, as the bag stated, maximum taste is what they were going for.

When I first bit into a chip, the first flavor was cheese.  Cheesy cheesy cheese.  It had the sharper bite of cheddar cheese, and there was plenty of cheese flavor.  As I chewed, THAT’s where the bacon and onion flavor REALLY came out.  VERY green-onion-y.   The onion flavor kept emerging as I chewed, over and over.  The smoky tangy meaty taste of bacon was there! And trust me – I was really REALLY looking for it, to see if I was just imagining it.  No, it was there…smoky, salty, and adding a different meaty complexity to the already strong cheese and onion flavor.  The bacon fat made the difference – it wasn’t just a meat bullion flavor.

Add to all this the general creaminess of sour cream, and this chip was very very good.  They reminded me a lot of one of my favorite chips, Ruffles Sour Cream and Cheddar, but turned up a notch…to the MAX, if you will.  I liked these a lot.  Like I said – nothing XXXTREME about this product. It was just done the right way.

I would love to spritz pizza hut perfume all over curves, weight watchers, and jenny craigs locations and see the reactions of their members. I

I had these (without the MAX Loaded name) in a smaller size over the summer. Guess it must’ve sold well if they bought it back.

You could use it as a means to cover your tracks. Say you do something you’re not to proud of, you could spray yourself with the perfume and say that you were at pizza hut the whole time.

I’ve been looking for these for years now. Don’t know why they stopped making these, but they are awesome. The cheese one’s should be discontinued in place of these. Great chip, please bring them back.
