Review: Talenti Banana Chocolate Swirl Gelato & Bud Selig Must Die (A Film)
Junk Food Nation, first, Happy Birthday to my awesome parents 🙂 Next, it’s shameless promotion time! Every once in a while, I post movies on this blog. Ok, I post videos a lot on this blog. Anyways, my friend Chris has a new video out, and I think it is pretty damn funny – starring Tony Hale (from Arrested Development) and Jon Heder (from Napolean Dynamite) and Actor Sis as the voice of Google!
Eh? EH? Pretty good, right? I dunno, for a baseball nerd like me, I thought it was pretty good. Pass it on to your friends, folks! If you’re interested in more from my friend Chris (and Actor Sis), head over here and give to their new Kickstarter project about love and assassins! Seriously, that’s what it is about.
Today’s junk food: Talenti Banana Chocolate Swirl Gelato!
Look, I know Talenti Banana Chocolate Swirl Gelato is nothing new. At all. Hell, two other blogs already have great reviews of it (Foodette reviewed it here, and the Ice Cream Informant reviewed it here). So some of you may be asking, “Why review this now, Junk Food Guy?” And to you I respond, “Sucks to your assmar, that’s why.” I’ll review whatever I damn well please, old or not!
But the real reason I wanted to give some review love to this particular product is because I really like it. Banana haters, this isn’t for you. Banana fans, you’ll enjoy this. Let’s get into it.
This is my first Talenti review, which is so funny, because I love Talenti. But honestly, I usually let my friends over at On Second Scoop or Crazy Food Dude handle these. And let me say – Talenti’s Tahitian Vanilla Bean, recommended to me by Nick from On Second Scoop, may very well be my favorite vanilla of all time. But I had to talk about this Talenti Banana Chocolate Swirl Gelato.
Banana flavored items are tricky. Go too far, and it tastes artificial. Not enough, and you have jokers like me complaining about not enough banana flavor. This Talenti has a limited ingredient list…so I believe this plays in their favor. Not a lot of chemical fixing to the taste.
Talenti Banana Chocolate Swirl Gelato is not a low calorie alternative to…anything. This whole little tub is 800 calories. Good god.
Yeah, so this is what happens when you say “Meh, I’ll just try a little before I shoot any pictures.” You end up eating a good serving of Talenti Banana Chocolate Swirl Gelato before the camera is even contemplated. Sigh. I have issues. Talenti Gelato is smooth and creamy, and you can see from this photo that it is loaded with chocolate bits and caramel swirl. Time to taste…or, rather, taste again.
Talenti Banana Chocolate Swirl Gelato was really very very tasty to me, a banana lover. Simply put, this sort of tasted like an ice cream version of banana bread! At least to my deluded mind. Lemme explain:
The first taste I got, right off the bat, was of course the creamy banana gelato. Not overpowering in banana flavor, but still strong. Then the chocolate bits started to kick in, deep in chocolate flavor and very soft on the tongue – these weren’t rock hard chocolate chips, but rather slivers of rich chocolate that mixed into the banana flavor seamlessly. Then the salty caramel swirl added a unique twist, IMO – it gave the whole flavor a sort of burnt sugar taste, and reminded me of the burnt edges of a nice banana bread! That, mixed with the chocolate flavor, made my brain explode with “fresh oven chocolate chip banana bread” thoughts.
Of course, it lacked a few things, like a bit of cinnamon, but all in all, the combo of flavors reminded me so much of a nice B-bread. It was very sweet, so I wonder if some peanut butter would be good with this (Foodette tried it). Maybe with Peanut Butter Co. The Heat Is On Peanut Butter? Hmmmmm.

This review made me want to eat this product a lot. Good work!
@Lindemann: THAT’S THE GOAL!
Bah, I’m jealous. I’ve yet to find it. It actually is sort of new seeing as it only came out last year. Dubba has a review in the pipeline for this one as well. Now if only I could get my hands on it seeing as I love banana desserts.
@Nick: So, hate mint, hate lemon, love banana?
No, I like mint. I just don’t like the “grassy” real flavor of mint ahaha. I love lemon, I just was sketchy about the whole lavender situation.
@Nick: Ah, the lavender. Well, I’m glad you survived 🙂
@Eric, sadly the passionfruit attempted to kill me. I’m pretty sure that’s who slashed my car tire.
Nice film. I had hoped that the Rangers would change their logo before 2032, but no such luck. But yeah, it’s good no baseball players are currently using performance enhancing drugs, or at least using them where there’s a clean chain of custody.
@Kahn: “NO BASEBALL FOR OIL”
Tried this the other day for the first time. It tasted great the first few times but a day later when I went into to finish it I had a complete sugar overload. And I usually have a huge tolerance sugar level. I felt like I was going to pass out big time. Compared to the other old Talenti flavors I’ve tried this one is heavy duty on the sugar. I wonder if its the case with other new ones.
@Mike: Hmmmm interesting…yeah I have only recently become a Talenti fan so I am unaware if the formula is different. Good input!
Finally got to try this and was disappointed. The banana flavor was way too ripe for me and I have to agree with Dubba’s comments on this one. http://www.onsecondscoop.com/2013/05/talenti-banana-chocolate-swirl-gelato.html At least there was chocolate and caramel to help things out a bit.
I like ice-cream, thanks for this post and hoping to post more of this, so I’ll put this one on my bookmark list of http://www.gsgelato.com .
