Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream: The Money Shot

First, let me say, when it comes to ice cream, I usually defer to my friends over at Crazy Food Dude, On Second Scoop, or Ice Cream Informant.  They are the experts.  But, I have been known to review ice cream myself from time to time, and especially Häagen-Dazs ice cream.  And I love peanut butter!  So when I saw this Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream, I had to make a move…

DROOL

Häagen-Dazs, if you wanted to make me shudder with happiness with your Limited Edition Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream, you’re doing well so far.  I love Peanut Butter Pie, only because it’s always been the easiest way to get 3000 calories in me in one sitting.

Decent ingredients

This tub of Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream has over 1000 calories.  Yep, that’s about right.

Like a speckled moon

As soon as I opened up the tub of Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream, I could IMMEDIATELY smell peanut butter goodness.  It ebbed from the container like a radiator of flavor.  Really nice smell.  Onto the taste!

Spoon crater!

This Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream was pretty awesome.  Let’s break it down. The ice cream was smooth and tasted a LOT like frozen peanut butter, or rather, frozen peanut butter pie.  LOTS of peanut-y flavor that was cut with a good deal of creaminess.  Really tasty.

The ribbons of peanut butter were, at times, hard to carve out with the spoon, but they mixed well with the ice cream – nice huge splotches of peanut butter that were salty like a Reese’s.  Overall, I felt like the peanut butter didn’t feel like a separate ingredient from the ice cream at all – it felt like a burst of saltiness here and there that made my mouth water.

Dark and light

The Oreo-like chocolate cookie bits in this Häagen-Dazs Limited Edition Peanut Butter Pie Ice Cream were sweet and chocolatey, very dark tasting.  The almost bitter dark chocolate taste was a perfect contrast to the sweet ice cream and salty peanut butter.

Overall, the flavor was perfectly balanced, and didn’t feel like H-D was clubbing me over the head with any one taste.  Like many others who have tried this, tasted exactly like how I’d imagine a frozen peanut butter pie to taste like.  Simply, SPOT ON.

Here are the Ice Cream Informant’s review and Crazy Food Dude’s review of this same flavor.  Consensus is: IT’S DAMN GOOD.

PURCHASED AT: Harris Teeter

COST: I will admit, I did NOT buy this on sale, and holy cow it was like $4.70-$5.00. YIKES.

Congrats on the podcast! My podcast heyday is well in the past (back when I was in college I probably listened to around 20 different podcasts), but I may give this one a listen if I can find the time.

I’ve been wanting to try this ice cream for a while now, but I keep forgetting to look for it every time I go to the store. I definitely have to remember next time, because this looks pretty delicious. Also, I never knew peanut butter pie was an actual thing (I guess it’s not really popular here in Texas), so I’ll have to try to find/make that one day as well.

@Devin: Thanks man! Pretty exciting for us 🙂 And yes, this is a good one if you like peanut butter – it’s pretty rich

    • Mike says:

You didn’t know peanut butter pie existed? I live in Texas too, and many restaurants/bakeries offer it. It can also be purchased in grocery stores in the frozen section. You are weird.

  2. Hannah says:

I am actually sulking that we do not get this flavour in the UK. The only thing that comforts me is the fact that you too have to pay extortionate prices for Haagen Dazs 🙂 Is Brownies A la Mode still available across the pond because I am back over there in September and I will cry if it isn’t.

Loving the pod-cast by the way. I listened today whilst at work and it certainly brightened up my day!

    • junkfoodguy says:

@Hannah: We have another episode coming out sooN! And no…haven’t seen a Brownie Ala Mode flavor over here. Sounds tasty though 🙂

  3. Kenneth says:

We get next to no interesting Haagen-Dazs variants here. This, Coconut Macaroon and Bourbon Pecan are the only purple containers I’ve found around here (and they’re only at Walmart). So when I saw this, it was a quick grab, buy and try.

At first I thought the flavor was too consistent for its own good, but it gets better the more you dig in. I’m still pissed I never found their Peppermint Bark ice cream during the holidays.

    WOW!!!! i want that!

  5. Giovana says:

This is the BEST ICECREAM ALREADY CREATED so far!!!
Please we need to have this flavor offered in any groceries stores forever!
    This is heaven

Do you have an A&P near you? I got it on sale today for 2.99. The worst of it is that Passover starts tomorrow, so I HAVE to eat it all before sunset!!! Don’t you just feel terrible for me??? What a hardship!
