Review: Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream, Exclusive Flavor & Chip Han / George Yamazawa Jr.

Junk Food Nation, it’s Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month here in DC (say that 3x fast), and because I am Asian, I was stoked to attend a show put on by the Mayor here to celebrate that heritage.  The evening was full of awards and performances, and two stood out to me.  I’d like to share them with you!

The first is Chip Han, a beatboxer from the area, who won the Kollaboration 2010 show.  Now, I’ve seen a lot of beatboxing in my life (wait, I have? Who actually has seen A LOT of beatboxing in their lives? Well, I have, jerks). Anyways, so I wasn’t sure if this Chip Han character would be any good.  Well, he was.  He REALLY was.  Luckily, someone took a shaky blurry YouTube video of his performance last night!  Here it is:

I personally loved the 15 second snippet of Mario Brothers in there. Chip Han – incredible.

The second act I enjoyed was George Yamazawa Jr., a spoken word / poetry slam artist who won Kollaboration DC 2012.  I love sports, and he did this riff about Jeremy Lin that blew my mind.  I couldn’t find any recordings of last night, but here is basically the same thing from earlier this month:

As an Asian, my jaw was open the whole time.  G. Yamazawa….wow.

Anyways, whether you liked these videos, *I* enjoyed both these artists, and just wanted to share.  It’s a sharing Friday, folks!  And today’s junk food is NOT new, but it is something I’ve been waiting to try for a VERY long time: Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream!

Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream: The Money Shot

To be clear, this Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream is NOT new.  The earliest account of it I can find is over on The Impulsive Buy, who discussed it back in June of 2011.  The my friends over at On Second Scoop and Ice Cream Informant reviewed it last year in 2012.  So, admittedly, I am late to the ballgame here.  Still, when I FINALLY saw this at a Super Walmart after having only read about it and NOT seen it…I knew I had to have it. IT MUST BE MINE.

Nuggets of buttery crust….oooooooo

Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream is (was?) an exclusive flavor for Walmart only.  Not sure why this was, but ok.

What exactly are peak-flavor peaches?  Are they the ones that just turn into mush in my mouth?

240 cal per serving

Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream has peaches as one of its earliest ingredients, so that’s a good thing.  Still 40% of my saturated fat in one 1/2 cup serving??? WOW.  That IS exclusive!

Peaches and crust poking through

Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream looked pretty good – upon open the container, I could smell a faint faint peach flavor, but mostly I smelled…cold? Ice cream? Sweetness?  General goodness?  Time for a dip.

Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream: Slivers of peach!

This Häagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble Ice Cream was really really good…but maybe not the best ice cream I’ve had from H-D.  The ice cream itself is H-D’s great sweet cream ice cream, with definite hints of cinnamon and nutmeg – AMAZING.  Really tasty, with each bite more refreshing than the last.  I mean, H-D sweet cream in undeniably good.

The pie crust pieces were good too – cinnamon-y, good texture, and just enough to remind of that pie-feeling.  Less sweet than the ice cream, this was a perfect contrast to the smooth sweet cream ice cream. Felt like a nice crumble.

My real beef was with the peach!  I mean, I got SOME peach flavor – I’d call it “essence of peach” – but I really wanted more.  Just MORE peach flavor.  The peach pieces themselves were too few, and while they did give my bursts of peach flavor, I just desired more of it.  That’s all.  Weak on the peach.

BUT, overall, a VERY good product!  I definitely had trouble stopping the spoon…80% daily saturated fat, here I come!  Worth the buy, for sure.

PURCHASED AT: Super Walmart

COST: yikes…I can’t remember

I finally got to try this one earlier this year and I agree with you 100%. I was actually surprised how much I liked this one seeing as I hate pie crust. Those nuggets worked perfectly with this flavor. They didn’t make me reconsider my hatred of pie crusts as a whole but they made me more willing to try flavors with it involved. Now if only I could get my hands on their blueberry crumble to see how those pieces compare.

@Eric, There’s definitely room for more peach flavor but it didn’t really detract from the experience for me. That’s probably because I enjoyed the sweet cream and spices that were in the mix.

  3. I’m not sure why but this weblog is loading incredibly slow for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a problem on my end? I’ll check
back later on and see if the problem still exists.

Where can I purchase your spiced peach crumble ice cream in the Baton Rouge/New Orleans, La area? Haagen-Dazs.
