Junk Food Nation, there’s lots of stuff going on in the world today, and too much to discuss, but I just wanted to talk about two stories I saw on the news this morn:

1) These wildfires devastating Colorado.  WHAT THE EFF.  I have to be honest, I have no idea how wildfires work, but I know they are scary, they are big, and I am praying for those people in CO who are affected by this.  I mean, A BIG WALL OF FLAME COMING TO EAT MY HOUSE??? Are you kidding me – What is this, a video game?  Where’s the Man of Steel to come lift a water tower and assist with this fire when you need him??  Ooof.  That is some mind blowing stuff, and I commend all the people battling this blaze. Be careful out there.

2) The deck collapse in Miami.  Apparently, while the Heat were blowing out the Spurs last night, the outdoor deck of a Miami restaurant, Shuckers Bar and Grill, collapsed dumping 100+ people into the water below.  Feel awful for those people – thankfully no one was seriously hurt.  It does make me wonder if the restaurant overloaded their dock, and if so, wouldn’t you be pissed? It’s called a maximum safety number for a reason.  Stop trying to sell blended drinks and PBRs and think about safety for once.  Of course, I’m making wild accusations… sorry.  Gotta stop doing that.

I first heard about these New Sweet ‘n Salty Salted Caramel Chunk Chewy Chips Ahoy from the Impulsive Buy during a Nosh Show recording.  They sounded great.  Then I read The Impulsive Buy’s review.  And they sounded even BETTER.  I had to try these.  Cookies going sweet AND salty??? Done.

New Sweet ‘n Salty Salted Caramel Chunk Chewy Chips Ahoy: HMMM but they do appear to be crammed with chunks.  Ok, Nabisco. Score one for you.

New Sweet ‘n Salty Salted Caramel Chunk Chewy Chips Ahoy: Soft and chewy

These New Sweet ‘n Salty Salted Caramel Chunk Chewy Chips Ahoy were really really good.  Look, I’ll say this at the outset – they are completely processed cookies.  I acknowledge that.  You don;t get cookies this soft without a ton of preservatives.  So I know that when I chew these cookies and they feel a little waxy, that that’s what I’m dealing with.

But the flavor – ON POINT.  With the first bite, I definitely got the salty flavor. It wasn’t big, and it took a while to emerge (a few chews), but once it come through, it was present and very nice…I could feel that savory/sweet thing going on.  The cookie was nice and sweet and the chocolate chips were, of course, nice and chocolatey.  But the caramel had a nice saltiness to it, and I swear that as I chewed more, there were salt crystals hidden throughout the cookie.  Each time my tongue would hit one, the salt/sweet taste burst through again, giving me another taste thrill.  (Taste thrill? Yup.)

Plenty of stuff loaded into this cookie, so the product does not fail to deliver.  I really don’t eat many Chips Ahoy! products, but these were a nice surprise.
