Review: Limited Batch Turkey Hill All Natural Banana w/ Peanut Butter Ice Cream (ft. PB & Co.) & I LOVED GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
Junk Food Nation, I haven’t seen a movie in a while, but with August being a surprisingly busy month at work, baseball races in full swing, pre-season football happening, and a host of other crazy changes going on with this very blog, I needed a break. Despite actually loving the movie-going experience, I am somewhat of a curmudgeon when it comes to shelling out shekels to watch a film, so it really needs to be WORTH IT for me. So when Guardians of the Galaxy came along, I KNEW I needed to see this in the theater. In IMAX. In 3-D. Hellooooooooo, $20 ticket.
But it was worth it. SO SO WORTH IT. For the uninitiated, G of the G is a movie based on a 2008 comic reboot of an old 1960’s Marvel comic line. In this iteration, G of the G is basically a group of unlikely heroes / anti-heroes thrown together to protect the universe…er….galaxy. Whatever. I’m not going to review the movie, but if (1) you’re a comic book movie fan, (2) a comedy movie fan, (3) a fan of action and (4) a fan of music, you will enjoy this movie.
The music is something I was personally surprised by. Despite hearing “Hooked on a Feeling” in the movie’s trailer, I did not realize that the movie contained tons of other amazing hits from the 70’s and 80’s, including this gem:
Redbone? Marvel, you pulled out REDBONE??? Amazing. Go see this movie for the music alone. In IMAX. I am not being paid by Marvel to write these words (unless you WANT to Marvel)…but if anyone wants to see this movie again, well, you know where to find me on Twitter.
Today’s junk food: Limited Batch Turkey Hill All Natural Banana w/ Peanut Butter Ice Cream!
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know that I am a huge fan of Turkey Hill Ice Cream and of Peanut Butter & Co. It’s not ONLY because they’ve provided plenty of samples in the past – the products themselves are just THAT GOOD. So when I heard that both companies were joining forces to make a brand new ice cream?? I pretty much lost it – in a good way. Presenting: Limited Batch Turkey Hill All Natural Banana w/ Peanut Butter Ice Cream!!
Limited Batch Turkey Hill All Natural Banana w/ Peanut Butter Ice Cream is banana-flavored ice cream swirled with Peanut Butter & Co.’s Smooth Operator peanut butter! Holy S, are you kidding me? This is the first time PB & Co. has paired with another company apparently, and what a company to start with. Since Turkey Hill only really ships east of the Mississippi
Limited Batch Turkey Hill All Natural Banana w/ Peanut Butter Ice Cream was made by the power of the wind! That just sounds cool to say.
Limited Batch Turkey Hill All Natural Banana w/ Peanut Butter Ice Cream contains only six ingredients, although I’m always wondering what “natural flavors” are. But whatever – no gums, no pastes = good with me! Love this.
Opening up this tub of Limited Batch Turkey Hill All Natural Banana w/ Peanut Butter Ice Cream, the top layer was smoooooooth with just a little bit of peanut butter poking out. I bent down to sniff the ice cream….a faint lovely smell of banana. Not artificial smelling, but not overpowering…just nice and light.
I scraped the banana ice cream back to reveal the peanut butter, and in the process realized just how LIGHT and FLUFFY the banana ice cream was. I’m not sure words can do it justice – I mean, Turkey Hill Ice Cream is normally pretty smooth, but any ice cream will give your spoon a snag now and then. With this tub, my spoon cut through it like butter. Great consistency.
There were ribbons of Peanut Butter & Co.’s Smooth Operator woven throughout the ice cream. Interestingly, the peanut butter ribbons cracked, chipped, shattered as I dragged my spoon through the layers. And to me, THIS WAS A GOOD THING – while peanut butter inherently has oils in it, normal Peanut Butter & Co. peanut butter has a good balance of peanut and oil to make sure the flavor and feel is delicious. My takeaway from the fact that the peanut butter was sort of frozen in this ice cream was that no one had added EXTRA oil to the peanut butter to keep it viscous and sauce-like in cold temps. Nothing done to compromise the flavor of the original peanut butter…THANK YOU, TURKEY HILL.
There was plenty of peanut butter for each spoonful of this Limited Batch Turkey Hill All Natural Banana w/ Peanut Butter Ice Cream to have both peanut butter and banana ice cream. And the combo taste? I mean…simply heavenly. The banana ice cream was so light and fluffy, and was not hit-you-over-the-head banana. It was creamy and milky; as it melted in your mouth, a nice refreshing banana flavor emerged. Like, actual banana flavor, not that fake Runts-banana-flavor crap.
And the peanut butter? Perfect contrast – strong PB flavor and sort of salty. Despite coming apart in shards when dragged by my spoon, as soon as the PB hit my tongue I felt like it melted into a perfect tongue-ful of peanut butter taste – smooth, salty,peanut-y, with just enough stickiness to remind me that it was real peanut butter.
Combined, the salty sweet combo set fireworks off in my head. Even Doctor Sis, who doesn’t love banana, said she loved this ice cream. Just a precise execution of flavor balance. This one is a winner winner chicken dinner. Buy it.

I do not have an IMAX close to me so if others are in the same boat I would still recommend going to see GotG in 2D. So good.
@Steve: True – you don’t need IMAX to dig Redbone! 🙂
I saw Guardians in Imax 3D with my husband and daughter. And personally, I was thinking this is going to be crazy stupid. Since Disneyland has been “promoting” this movie heavily at the theme park, my daughter wanted to go. I was pleasantly surprised. And I absolutely loved the sound track.
@Chris: NICE! Yes, the soundtrack put it over the top for me.
i’m going to search high and low for this! especially since i won a free tub of the natural line from you 🙂
@Kaitlyn: Great one to use it on!
So happy you reviewed this….and loved it! I have been saving the coupon you sent for this exact ice cream, can’t wait! Yeah, movies, crazy expensive! I always save my theatre experience for special ones.
@Sarah: Well, I got it at Wegmans – hope you find it!
@jfg They posted the soundtrack a few weeks before the movie opened so I went and found the individual tracks that made it up. I have been rocking to it, and driving my family crazy, since July 4th. Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch cherry bomb.
@Steve: LOL
So glad you reviewed this and also felt that it was so light & fluffy! Wonder if all TH natural ice cream has the same consistency!
@Ashley: I’m a big fan of TH generally.
Dude. Marriage of 2 amazing combinations. Sounds freaking awesome.
Almost as sweet as watching a major without Tiger with classy dudes like Philbie, Rory and the human highlighter Fowler. Amazing watch last night.
@Marc P: Rory was BOMBING it. Incredible. Can’t wait for the Ryder Cup
