Junk Food Nation, FIRST, quick Monday morning inquiry: Does anyone out there DISLIKE French Toast?  They were talking about it on my local sports radio station, and they hypothesized that EVERYONE likes French Toast.  Sure, it can be bad for you if you eat it every day, and it makes you feel bloated as hell, but generally – does anyone out there HATE French Toast?  It’s like, fluffy, covered in sugar and cinnamon …man, I LOVE IT.  I want some right now.  I get it if you’re one of those “I prefer waffles or pancakes over French Toast” kind of people…but that’s not the question.  The question is do you NOT LIKE French Toast, and if so, why? Tell me in the comments below.

Today’s junk food: New Hostess Greek Yogurt Strawberry Swirl Cakes!

New Hostess Greek Yogurt Strawberry Swirl Cakes were spotted, and purchased, at Target. Greek Yogurt Cakes?  I mean, Greek Yogurt IS popular these days, but what makes these Greek Yogurt Cakes?  Are they just MADE with Greek Yogurt, or is there some icing/swirl on top that will give me that Greek Yogurt flavor?

New Hostess Greek Yogurt Strawberry Swirl Cakes have a picture of what I can only assume is Greek Yogurt, but when was the last time you ever had a bowl of Greek yogurt that there was SO MUCH Greek yogurt that it came above the lip of the bowl an inch high???  That wouldn’t even work, Hostess.  Greek yogurt is not frosting.

Not even artificial and natural…just artificial.  Got it.

Besides these New Hostess Greek Yogurt Strawberry Swirl Cakes, the chocolate swirl ones intrigue me…

Looking at the ingredients, these New Hostess Greek Yogurt Strawberry Swirl Cakes are MADE with Greek Yogurt…not necessarily Greek Yogurt “flavored.”

Each of these New Hostess Greek Yogurt Strawberry Swirl Cakes comes individually wrapped…

…and sort of looks like a coffee cake. Just a square spongy yellow cake with some crumble on top.

Flip over these New Hostess Greek Yogurt Strawberry Swirl Cakes, and you see some of the strawberry swirl soaking through the bottom…

…the swirl is SORT OF woven through. The texture of the cake was very spongy – sort of like the texture of a Twinkie or any other Hostess cake I’ve ever had.

I bit into one of these New Hostess Greek Yogurt Strawberry Swirl Cakes, and here’s what I’ll say -it wasn’t bad.  It reminded me, not only in look, but also in taste, of a coffee cake.  It was a nice yellow cake, firm and spongy, with a nice sugary crumble on top.  Instead of cinnamon, like a standard coffee cake, it was strawberry flavored.  The strawberry flavor wasn’t super strong, but it was present.  Pretty good, standard Hostess product.

The reason I probably wouldn’t buy this again is more that there was nothing special about these to me. There wasn’t any Greek yogurt flavor. I get that these were made with Greek yogurt, but so what?  I couldn’t taste any of it.  I feel like I COULD taste a stronger honey flavor in the sweetness, but that was about it.  Other than that, nothing about this cake made me think “Greek Yogurt.”

So yeah.  Not a bad cake, but I’ll pass next time.
