Today’s review: Hostess Limited Edition White Peppermint Twinkies!!

JFG Nation, you know I’m only a so-so Twinkie fan. More often than not, I’m disappointed with any variation past the original Twinkie, but there have been a few moments when I’ve been surprised. These Hostess Limited Edition White Peppermint Twinkies – count these among those variation Twinkies that have surprised me.

Biting into one, the white fudge coating, while it had the same plasticky feel, had a decently subtle peppermint flavor. That peppermint flavor, mixed with the white fudge, reminded me of the peppermint coating on these Snack Factor Pretzel Crisps: creamy, minty, and surprising. The flavor wasn’t overpowering, so it didn’t taste too artificial. The kicker was the candy sugar crystals on the outside – when combined with the overall flavor, these reminded me of candy cane pieces, and provided a nice sugary crunch.

Throw this one top of the light Twinkie, and the result was good – the creme filling took on the taste of the outer coating, and the whole thing chewed well with good flavor without feeling cloying or fake. Trust me, I know – I was shocked. These were actually….good? Good, not great, but good.
