Limited Edition Snack Factory White Chocolate & Peppermint Pretzel Crisps (A Photolog) & Peppermint Pretzel Crisps & The Great Peppermint Pretzel Challenge, Pt. 2 (Plus, X-Factor Thoughts)

Junk Food Nation, before we get to Part 2 of my chocolate peppermint pretzel challenge, I just wanted to talk briefly about X-Factor.  You know, the latest iteration of a singing competition on FOX?  Last night they revealed the final three finalists: recovering addict Chris Rene, burrito Maker Josh Krajcik, and accent magician Melanie Amaro. And I just wanted to put on the record that from the VERY BEGINNING OF THE SHOW, back during the audition phase, I CALLED that Melanie Amaro and Josh Krajcik would be in the finals.  CALLED IT.  Chris Rene…yeah, all I can say is, I get it. He’s unique, he’s a good dude, and he’s humble. Great singer? No. Great rapper? Nope. Great performer?  Er…. yeah, he’s unique, he’s a good dude, and he’s humble.  Anyways, for $5 million dollars, next week’s show is going to be pretty interesting.

Moving on: for today’s junk food, I decided not to make any comments.  I mean, quite frankly, I used up all my jokes in yesterday’s post about this snack’s Dark Chocolate twin.  Do you need another joke about the phrase, “Rethink your Pretzel!”? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

I have a sneaking suspicion that, given the white fudge nature of this snack, these will taste closest to the Rold Gold Peppermint Dipped Snowflake Pretzels everyone has been raving about.  Alright, so let’s get right to it. My photolog of the Limited Edition Snack Factory White Chocolate & Peppermint Pretzel Crisps! I’ll give my taste review after.

The Money Shot

The bright red burns HOLIDAY into my skull

Rethink my pretzel from dark to WHITE chocolate!

Seriously, when is something dipped in white chocolate bad?

Ooooooooooooo decadent

Semi-translucent

Thick chunks of peppermint

Instantly delicious

Looks good, no?

The crunch: Again, more crispy than crunchy. I will say one thing though – the chocolate to pretzel balance in this chip was WAY better than the dark chocolate kind.  Because of that, there was a LOT of snap to them.  I didn’t feel buried in the chocolate.  Plenty plenty of texture.

The chocolate: VERY good white chocolate or white fudge or whatever you’d call it.  White chocolate is very sweet and very creamy.  You could tell it was decent quality white chocolate, because as soon as you grabbed one with your fingers, it started to melt.  I love that.  The chocolate hasn’t been fortified with preservatives or anything – just a good clean fudge.

The peppermint candies: Crunchy crunchy crunchy – good Pop, good flavor.

The combo: Winner winner, chicken dinner.  THIS is what I’m talkin’ about.  The salty of the pretzel, here, worked REALLY well with the sweetness of the white chocolate.  This combo was REALLY good, and my theory was confirmed.  You need the extra sweetness to really make the salt pretzel stand out and contrast.  The combo of salt and sugar made for the perfect savory/sweet result, and the peppermint was a perfect accent – didn’t overpower the ultimate flavor.  Definitely would crush many of these bags of pretzel crisps.

Nice work, Snack Factory – an excellent snack for the holidays!  Buy them at Walgreens!

Sounds like a way better pairing then the dark, I’d only knock them for not using white confection. Those tricky bastards are calling it white chocolate coating – that melting is happening from the palm-oil they use.

wow I hope these come out again this winter. I love the white chocolate/peppermint combo. Haagen Dazs makes a great ice cream with that combo. Gotta love the seasonal flavors this time of year.
