Review: New Banana Drizzled w/ Dark Fudge Newtons Fruit Thins & Episode 5 of THE NOSH SHOW!
Junk Food Nation, it’s Monday, which means two things: (1) GAME 7 of the Miami Heat versus the Indiana Pacers, at home in Miami! If this isn’t must see TV for any die hard sports fan, I don’t know what is. And (2) Monday means THE NOSH SHOW EPISODE 5 IS OUT:
This week, Marvo from The Impulsive Buy, Ryan from Grub Grade, Dubba from On Second Scoop, and me, your friendly neighborhood Junk Food Guy, discuss the new Kobe Beef jerky, fast food secret menus, and more!
Today’s junk food: New Banana Drizzled w/ Dark Fudge Newtons Fruit Thins
New Banana Drizzled w/ Dark Fudge Newtons Fruit Thins were first seen over on The Impulsive Buy’s site, and then I found them myself at my local grocery. I’ve reviewed Newtons Fruit Thins before, having tried and reviewed their Chocolate Raspberry and Lemon Crisp varieties before. Generally, I really enjoy these Fruit Thins – they sort of taste like Belvita crackers.
New Banana Drizzled w/ Dark Fudge Newtons Fruit Thins is “one unique cookie.” Well, I’m sure it is, since this marks the first Fruit Thin that has been drizzled with chocolate. And all I can say is ABOUT TIME. Seriously, it only makes sense to add stuff to the OUTSIDE of these Fruit Thins! I want to see Oreo-style Fruit Thin Creme Sandwiches next! #Genius
Don’t wanna know what Banana Times are…
Sidenote: Does anyone else call bananas “Nanners?” Or is that just me? Seriously, that’s just *me*??? I cannot be the ONLY one. Tell me in the comments below.
New Banana Drizzled w/ Dark Fudge Newtons Fruit Thins SMELLED like banana and chocolate as soon as I opened the container. Personally, I LOVE banana plus chocolate, so I couldn’t WAIT to eat these. I mean, when I reviewed the Talenti Banana Chocolate Swirl Gelato, I almost wet myself. These cookies? If they are as good as they smell, FORGET IT NOM NOM NOM.
These New Banana Drizzled w/ Dark Fudge Newtons Fruit Thins were, in a word, AWESOME. The cookie was light and crunchy and gave off an IMMEDIATE banana flavor, aided by the dried hard pieces of banana within the cookie itself. It tasted like the banana bread I’ve eaten at bakeries or that people made for me. Naturally sweet.
Add to that the great (albeit, processed) fudge ribbon on top, which was deep in chocolate taste and not TOO sweet. The sweetness of the banana cookie enhanced the flavor of the chocolate. Together, the flavors worked in harmony – the banana taste starting the overall flavor strong, and then the chocolate emerging to complement it and give a satisfying aftertaste. The chocolate fudge ribbon was a LITTLE messy, as the oils used meant that the fudge got all over my fingers…but I can look past that, given the taste.
REALLY good job here by Nabisco. Do they make Banana Newtons dipped in Fudge? They should, because I’d buy them. For now, I’ll just devour these.

I also call bananas “nanners.”
@Lindemann: Soulmates! +1
Monday? Oh, right…Monday. Bruins are playing. I knew there was something worth watching on. Maybe Crosby will pretend he wants to fight Andre the Giant…I mean Chara, again. Smooth move, Captain Concussion, shove the guy’s goalie and then shove the guy that could literally pound you through the ice without even being near you.
@Albanyish Dana: B’s took care of bizness. Anytime the Pens lose, it’s a good day
“Banana” also refers to a technique in on-camera acting where you walk from point A to point B in a curved path, usually to ensure the camera catches you. I worked with a Czehoslovakian director who would say “banana” funny – made me giggle every time. “Megan, don’t forget to do the bah-nah-NAH!”
@Teresapalooza: LOL!
How would a smear of peanut butter taste between two of these cookies? I can only imagine delicious.
@Brian: OMG THAT. IS. BRILLANT. Doin’ it. TONIGHT
I’m one of those people who doesn’t find banana plus chocolate appealing in any form. I’ve walked around Disney World and shuddered at the people eating chocolate covered bananas. To me, if we’re going to pair banana, put it with peanut butter. I love the peanut butter/banana combo as much as Dubba loves pretzels.
@Linny: LOL, to each their own 🙂 I personally love it. I do love banana with PB TOO, though – all good combos. Imagine if they made these fruit thins, instead of with fudge drizzle, with PB drizzle? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
My daughter calls them boo-nanners, as in, what’s a ghost’s favorite fruit? Boo-nanners! She’s six okay so be nice 🙂
@Renee: Are you kidding – I’m gonna retell that joke SO MANY TIMES now, you have no idea 🙂 Like, seriously, I will. i love puns!
Fabulous, I’ve helped perpetuate a bad pun. I’m sorry world… 😉
Hey Junkfoodguy, one of my friends makes a snack you will love! Take a banana, smother it with chocolate chips, and stick it in the microwave! When it comes out, cover it with powdered sugar. The odd thing about this is that my friend is not supposed to have sugar…….
Also, I call bananas brnaners. Yeah,weird.
@EowynofRohan: THAT. SOUNDS. AWESOME. Seriously, I think Bananas are amazing things, and anytime you can melt some sugar on them – I’m down.
Long time lurker, first time poster! Hehe the banana brought me out! I can’t find these in my area but I really want to try them. Because you brought up Talenti which is the best banana flavored dessert I think I have ever had it taste like real banana not that fake now and later candy style banana lol. Really hope I can find these soon!
@Darrell: Agree – Talenti’s Banana Chocolate Gelato is awesome. I did a review here: http://junkfoodguy.com/2013/04/05/review-talenti-banana-chocolate-swirl-gelato-bud-selig-must-die-a-film/
Best snack, cut a banana lengthwise, spread a layer of peanut butter then put back together and cut in bite size chunks. No messy fingers. Even better dip the chunks in melted dark chocolate and chill. I make a whole lot of them, freeze individually and keep in a ziplock bag in the freezer for a quick treat. Yum
@RK: Um, mind blown. THat sounds amazing. Need to try.
U r right on about these nanner/ choco cookies. Will b tryin pb on them.
@KB: SWEET! Tell me how it is with PB!
